TOUR STOP #3 & 4 MOONDOGGIES & STOKE FEST

CHRONICLE BOOKS AND HURLEY PRESENT- “THE CALIFORNIA SURF PROJECT” BOOK TOUR 2009.  STOPS 4 & 5 SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA- MOONDOGGIES BEACH CLUB & SURFRIDER FOUNDATION’S “STOKEFEST.”

 

 

 

The birthplace of The California Surf Project welcomed Chris and Eric home with a very warm welcome at Moondoggies Beach Club in San Luis Obispo CA.  This highly anticipated event featured, art, photos, a movie, and sculptures from the journey, as well as catering from “Hoagies,” and music by the “Wadsworth Bluff Rats”(featured in the books DVD).  The San Luis Obispo venue was the biggest event yet, bringing out the counties finest- families, friends, and local heroes were all in attendance.

 

The tour continued on the following evening with Surfrider Foundation’s 2^nd annual “Stokefest” held at The Old Vienna in Shell Beach, CA.  The event was a mix of environmental activism, local music, surf craft, and art.  This was once again a sold out venue for The California Surf Project, and as the name of the event implied, a real stokefest!

TOUR STOP #2 SANTA CRUZ

CHRONICLE BOOKS AND HURLEY PRESENT- “THE CALIFORNIA SURF PROJECT” BOOK TOUR 2009.  STOPS 2 & 3, CAPITOLA BOOK CAFÉ & PACIFIC WAVE SURF SHOP.  SANTA CRUZ, CA.

 

 

Stop number two and three went down this past week in Santa Cruz, CA.  Capitola Book Café was our first stop of the two.  Their tranquil yet cozy surroundings had people milling about the room, taking in art, photos, and The California Surf Project.  Capitola’s East side following greeted our tour with open arms.  Some of the local faces on hand included, Dave “Nelly” Nelson, Bud Frietas, Jesse Colombo, Tony and Tosha Dandrea, up and coming photographer Nikki Brooks, Brian Spaulding, and John Thomas to name a few.  Capitola Book Café’s mellow vibe made for a great evening of fun, new friends, and a great start to the Santa Cruz leg of the tour.

 

Next stop was at Pacific Wave Surf Shop on Santa Cruz’s Westside.  The event went off! DJ Omar Etchevary’s beats filled the room as guests poured in to experience The California Surf Project.  The Westside book release brought an eclectic mix of local individuals from filmmaker/artist Thomas Campbell, to surfing legend Adam Replogle.  Additional faces like Homer Henard, Matt Myers, Jesse Colombo, and the local crew from Pacific Wave Surf Shop were all there to show their support and share in the festivities. 

 

Both stops on the Santa Cruz book tour sold out of books by night’s end.  Buyers not only took home their signed copies but a new found enthusiasm to explore their own backyards.  A huge thanks goes out to the Capitola Book Café’s management and the crew at Pacific Wave for all of their help and support.

Vibrantly stylish surfboards, beards, flannels, and art of all shapes and sizes were on hand for stop #1 of the CA. Book tour, which went down at Mollusk Surf Shop in San Francisco CA.

Over 60 people showed up and supported their local surf shop. The first customers of the event were Eric's proud Grandparents, who walked away with a handful of books and smiles.

Eric Soderquist's art and Chris Burkard's photos were featured throughout the shop, as well as their new book "The California Surf Project," published by Chronicle books.
This was Chronicle books release party for the book, and they were proud to have it in ther hometown of San Francisco, CA. Mollusk was the perfect fit for the books first event, the free flowing vibe of the city meets cruise control on a surfboard.

At one point in the evening, everyone was completely immersed in the book, handfuls of people huddled silently, reading their new found stoke.
